if you wanted to go fiberglass instead of steel, there is an alternative to plywood. jamestown distributors sells a product used on boat decks and roofs called dyvinicell. is is well tested in marine environments and has none of the bad characteristics of plywood. i would use steel or do a stock restoration of the roof, but those wanting to do fiberglass might find this material interesting. some guys can work fiberglass better than metal.
