HELP ! Are these guys correct about 4:89 gears?

If someone feels different please let us know before we spend good money on gearsets.
I could see where the 230 might be strained on grades but with a fair condition 251 or 318 I would hope more torque would make upfor the loss of low gearing.If we don't run up and down the roads and 50mi. is probably the furtherist we may drive from home,do we really need 4:89 gears?I want whatever will help my truck last as long as possible.Which gearset would most likely cause axle breakage off-road?
