I've looked a little bit into getting my crank nitrided, but the several machine shops that I called didn't seem to know any place to get it done. I finally called 2 or 3 heat treat shops, but they all said they need to know the metal chemistry and prior heat treatment performed on the journals (from the factory). There's no way I know this information. Should it be this big a deal?
