Hmmm...Sounds like one of the old Ford 390 V8 engines that was run on non-detergent Pennzoil for about 300K miles without being changed! Well that muck in the block is fairly common for older engienes, expecially ones running on non detergent oil. Also Blow by contributes to that as well. If I were you, and I know that you wanna keep this low budget, but if you want your engine to last anytime at all, pull it, tear it down, hot tank or "boil" it out, machine it, and put it back together right. WHen you get done with the rebuild, start running a good high quality detergent oil. My Favorite is Kendall, but Valvoline, Mobil, and Castrol are good as well. Stay away from Pennzoil, Quaker State and Wolfs Head.
