Melissa,
The other guys have mentioned the qualitative things that make some of us like Power Wagons so much and those are really important. There's one more thing that was briefly mentioned but is REALLY important to me: they remind me of the greatest war in all of history, World War 2. My WC53 was built in 1942 for the War, my M37 was built for our Army right after the War as an "improved" Weapons Carrier, and the Power Wagon was a direct derivative of the WW2 trucks for guys returning to their farms and building the country up (and other ruined countries over the seas) after the War.
History is one of my hobbies; I'm 51 years old and have been reading and collecting history books for 37 years, but I've been into four wheel drives for only 31 years and old Dodges for only 5 years.
200 years from now people all over the world will remember "The German and Japanese Fascists tried to take over the world but America sent weapons to the British Empire and China and then in December 1941 actually got dragged into the War, and after 4 more years the Grand Alliance finally crushed the totalitarian Axis into dust". But for America's role in the War history would be a LOT different now and possibly for centuries into the future. Talk to someone who's into history and ask them what would have happened if the bad guys had won World War 2: it's real scary.
All the main countries fought hard. China didn't have much except men but it lost a lot of them. Russia as most of us know lost about 20 million people! The British Empire "only" lost about 400,000 men but suffered greatly and was never the same again. America "only" lost about 300,000 men, but supplied the rest of the Allies with lots of equipment, including trucks, including about half a million Dodge trucks.
Sorry it took so long to tell you why I like old Dodge trucks so much!
Charlie
