Melissa,
At least you are trying! You may never fully understand but then again you too could be bitten by the bug. Power Wagons represent different things to different people. Some like the simplistic toughness of a real truck that is designed for work. For others it represents a past era when these trucks were new and a the Power Wagon was a functional part of their every day lives. Today when so many vehicles have "4x4" stuck on them in vinyl it is hard to fully appreciate what it was like when THE 4x4 was a Dodge Power Wagon. Still others like them because one does not see a Power Wagon in every neighborhood like so many other old Fords or Chevys. Many people remember a Power Wagon at some point in the past. The trucks have that effect on peolpe. maybe it was a wrecker pullin ghtem out of a ditch, or running electric power in rural areas, hauling loads over terrain that no there vehicle at the time could do. These are just a few of the memories that give the Power Wagon character! Owners like to think of that same character rubbing off on them. It is not easy to have one of these. They are hard to find. Require some measure of mechanical ability to keep them running. Driving them is great fun but certainly demands an awareness not found in the typical Ford Explorer. Shifting a non synchro crash box well, is a skill to proud of. Very few in the general population could even drive one of these trucks well.
All of these things add to the particulars of owning a Power Wagon.
If your boyfriend is into them try to go along. My wife "let us" leave the chapel last year at our wedding in a 1944 Command Car. That scored BIG points! Whatever you do don't make him choose! Good trucks are hard to find.
Enjoy!
Jim
