The current 2500/3500 diesels share the same type DANA 80 rear axle, the 2500 may also use the smaller DANA 70 rear axle in the gas/V8 trucks. It appears that Dodge was using the DANA 70 in the 1996 2500 diesel, but I am not sure when the DANA 80 was first used in either the 2500/3500 diesels.
