You had a learning experience, and an education has never been cheap.
I flew my big twin - 1954 Beechcraft Twin Bonanza - yesterday to test out a fuel pump on the right engine. It worked fine on the ground during run up and taxi, so off we went - me and the old guy who sold me the plane, and a mutual friend in back. After about a half hour flight, I was setting up to land, and when I lowered the gear, we smelled fuel. Not a good thing. At least it didn't take long to land, and the fuel pump had popped a seal or something and was dumping gas out through the drain tube. Took off the pump and we are trying to find out exactly what malfunctioned. Now faced with buying a rebuilt pump. Makes my '53 B3 PW seem absolutely cheap to drive and maintain!
