Well, as Roger posted, I left Louisiana a bit chubbier, and with some good Cajun groceries. Heading north, listening to dire weather forcasts of snow, ice etc, I was hoping to beat it before it hit CCSammys in Western Kentucky. As I passed through Memphis, I stopped in and saw Memphis Equipment. They mostly deal in M35s, but have a decent supply of M37 driveline parts, so they would also have certain Power Wagon parts, if you know the interchange. I picked up a couple of winch parts for my M37. The salesman then walked me through their entire operation, from where they rebuild electrical pats, to dissasembling entire trucks and rebuilding them, and body shop, and a giant paint booth. Parts warehouses galore, all stacked to the ceiling with parts. In their yard were roughly 100 trucks in all conditions. All I could think was, "wouldnt this be cool if it was all Power Wagon stuff?"
I continued North, crossed the Mississippi river several times, some on bridges that seemed to be about a lane and a half wide. As always you meet about a dozen semi's coming the other way. I dont know how they fit in that half lane but they seem to manage.
I got to Matt's shop and Power Wagon Mecca about dinner time. We grabbed a couple of sandwiches and cokes at the local store and went back to the shop, looked at trucks, including a cool crew cab with suicide doors, and talked for about 4 hours. It was a real blast. Matt went home and I retired to the very comfortable apartment in his shop.
Got up this morning and drove over to Matts house. We went to breakfast at a small restuarant and then said our goodbyes.
Next stop, Michael and Karen Verst's house on the other side of Kentucky. Todays drive was about the shortest one so far, and I arrived around noon. Maybe one oclock as there was another time zone in there. Got to check out Michaels crew cab he is building. Trust me here, it is very impressive! Very well thought out and cleanly and skillfully executed. This evening we went out for dinner and connected with Chris and Missy Wetherall. Afterwards we went to Chris's and surveyed his beautiful trucks.
A good time was had by all! Tomorow after a breakfast at the Versts, I head up to Joel and Melissa Folmans where I will finally divest myself of half of the tires.
Later,
Tim
