letter do help change things. the elected off likely doesn't read your letter, but his aides do. they log every call, email and letter with extra weight apportioned to letters. they figure if you are pissed enough to send a letter - that is not a form letter - you are motivated. it makes you feel better if nothing else and if your guy loses, you know you did something. there are some very vocal minorities in this country. because they are motivated, organized and educated - their agenda is brought to the front of the line even though they represent a very small percentage of the voting public. its a numbers game. convince your local pol that there are more average joes than the squeaky wheels and they have a way of coming around. the founding fathers are rolling in their graves. compare george washington to obama - one was a reluctant politician who refused to be king and the other will likely try to crown himself next week...
