E7F1 Square Top Carb

On the E7F1 square top, is there supposed to be a small spring between the float lip and the needle valve? The exploded view in the manuel does not show one but, there is one in place on an E7F1 that I purchased recently. Also, are there any quirks to getting it adjusted/running properly?
