I too have my doubts about those "lifetime guarantee" ones. If the only goal is to make the shoes last a long time, why not make them out of carborundum? Plenty of stopping power and you'll go though a dozen drums before you wear out the shoes. I thought the original point was to replace cheap shoes or pads regularly rather than replacing expensive drums and rotors. Nowadays most rotors are so thin that if they're at all warped there isn't enough metal there to turn them down even once and stay in spec. I have not worn out any PW shoes yet, probably because I just drive on back roads, and don't use the brakes much. For my Chevy pickup I still have a good stash of genuine asbestos surplus (CUCV?) shoes that will last me a long time.
