what has happened here is some one has parked the gun for a long period of time with the bolt in the rear position > then began to use the rifle and what happens is the weakend recoil spring does not decelerate the piston and operating rod assembly and in the chamber (trys) to open the bolt TO EARLY there is too much pressure for the rod to Turn the bolt to open so the rod bends > then the rifle will not move the bolt completely to the rearward position to chamber a round because the rod is now short > someone in a attempt to have the bolt rod assembly operate better has changed it up to a heavy spring but that isnt the real problem with the gun > change out the operating parts as neccassary > when you reasemble the weapon caution must be used IF the spring is to strong it will not alow the bolt to go back far enough and not strip around ALSO in the spring has to many coils this also could cause a lack of travel of the bolt and miss stripping a shell and going back to battery > you may clip a coil at a time untill it strips a round clean > there is a balance between the pressure syphioned off to drive the piston and operating mechanizim and the pressure in the breech > the breech pressure must have be reduced enough to alow the rod to open the bolt > a sloppy or dirty piston also effect the timing > piston should slide with just a slight amount of drag no scoring of the tube or the piston > these are hardened parts work best clean >use bullets in the weight of 180 grains and pressures with 45 - 48000 psi > but hey i was the guy who could not remember what was on the end of a oil pump for a flat head Hmmm so wait for more opinions beforeyou go a head ~ Copey
