It's truly amazing how much a father can do to make or break a relationship between him and his kids. My strongest recollections of my father are when he was mad at me he would move his cigarette from his hand to his mouth so he could smack me on the head. He didn't invite closeness by any means. Who knows what his childhood was like, to make him that way. But it made me want to have as good a relationship with my 4 kids as possible.
