The photo in Don Bunn's book sure appears to have been taken at the Dodge Truck Warren Assembly Plant, when you compare the surrounds with other photos known to have been taken at the plant. Don actually mentions that this is where the photo was taken, and that it was dated May 6, 1946.

He also mentions something else that no one has talked about below - the SEG.

If this truck were the product of the SEG, could one call it a factory Power-Wagon? Well, maybe not "factory" in the sense that a short wheelbase was something that could easily be ordered from a list of a factory offerings to the customer. Rather maybe "factory" in the sense that the SEG (Special Equipment Group) was located in the "factory" and was in charge of outfitting trucks to customer's special orders, i.e.: a special combination of equipment or alterations that were not a "factory" offering as requested or needed by a fleet buyer.

It appears that the truck in question in the vintage photograph was specially built by the SEG and was bound for a customer with special needs.

It would be interesting if the truck owned by John Smith could be proven to be the truck photographed on May 6, 1946 at the Warren Assembly Plant. I wonder if a build card from the Chrysler Archives would tell anything?

It is too bad that the fifth wheel is missing from John's truck (not that its absence reduces the value or the uniqueness of the truck in any way). I wonder how hard it would be to find a vintage fifth wheel with the bolt pattern to fit the existing holes in the plate on John's truck?
