i dont remember everything about those systems. what i do recall (i think) is that you need to install a conversion kit to get manual hubs otherwise everything is always spinning and wearing in the axle. when you figure the cost to remove the vacuum valve and the hub conversion, you get to the point that it might make sense to leave it all alone or drop a new axle under the front. guys put millions of miles on those old systems. granted gas was cheap. i don't know what wrinkles a locker adds, but guys here will know. i dont know if a non powered spinning locker will behave strangely.
