I sent Doug the following:

"Doug, Go to my Museum web site and check the discussion of "Wheels and Tires" and you'll see the picture that shows how the wheel side ring fits into the wheel. That will give you an understanding of where to apply effort to remove that ring.

Typically, the wheel side ring is "rust welded" where it fits into the wheel. That suggests that you drill holes around the circumference of the inner sidewall of the tire just clear of the inner bead flange and use a serious punch to drive the wheel side ring out of the wheel, keeping it even all the way around."

Doug responded, "THX for the input. I spent a lot of time last night figuring how to's and soon I was able to get the ring off, so now I know the mechanical components. The part now that I have given up on is getting the tire off of the wheel. I have tried cutting the tire, but it still adheres to the steel. I am going to snap a shot of it and send it to a "big truck" industrial tire dealer that I know and hope that he will figure it out. The bad news is that I have bought the entire set of 5 tires (spare included), so it isn't just one tire / wheel. Like I had mentioned last night on my final posting, the "fun factor" is now gone."

He says he was able to separate the Wheel Side Ring. He just can't get the tire loose from the bead of the wheel and the bead of the wheel side ring.

This problem is not unique to the Combat Wheel. Many tires on different types of rims have become adhered to the metal. Apparently he does not choose to use the old method of separating tire and rim with solvents and the tire tool that resembles a garden mattock.

Since he was able to follow my advice and successfully remove the ring. I am repeating it here with the hope that it will help some of the rest of you. Just remember getting the Wheel Side Ring loose is one issue and getting the rubber tire loose from the metal wheel parts is another.
