Of all the years I’ve been starting my truck in the garage, today I forgot to put it in neutral.

Took Bailey (the Golden) for a walk today and when we got home, I thought, let’s go for a ride. I just got the truck engine together and running again and wanted to see if I fixed an oil leak I had earlier. So we walked through the kitchen and into the garage. I open the driver’s door and Bailey hopped in with me after. I closed my door and rolled the passenger door window down, put the key in the ignition, turn it to the on position, pushed the starter button and the darn truck starts and I’m heading towards the West wall of the garage. I thought “oh Sh…..t.” I normally chuck the wheels so I had a 4x6 wood block in front of the driver’s wheel. Did that stop me – NO. The truck continues to head for the West wall, so I pressed on the brakes, turned off the ignition and heard “bang.” I thought, what have I destroyed now? I had my weed eater laying crossways in front of the truck and air compressor a little further in front of the truck. So I start the truck, backed out and didn’t see any damage to anything, so we went for a ride. After we got back, I parked the truck in front of the garage, opened the door and looked around. My weed eater was now lying parallel to how I park the truck, and the air compressor had a piece of plastic from the pulley/belt guard broken off. A lucky day.

I had changed the oil and filter earlier and drove the truck to O’Reilly’s (formerly Kragen) and when I came out of the store, I noticed about half a quart of oil under the truck in a parking stall in front of the store. Was that mine I thought? I opened the hood and oil was running down the canister, sure enough, it was mine. So I retighten the canister cap nut and when I got home, I changed out the rubber ring to the old one. I guess the new old one was just a little too hard. Leak fixed, engine runs fine!
