When an octane booster says that it will raise your gas an average of 10 points they do not mean 10 Octane points, but an arbitrary number of "points" that they have assigned to their products.

Usually an octane booster "point" is 1/10 of an octane point so that if the product claims a boost of 10 points they mean that it will raise your octane by a single digit.

Yep you got that right, that $7.00 you just spent raised your octane from 87 to 88.
