If I remember Gordon's explanation correctly, at one time, 90's-00's, you could not buy a 1-ton Ram unless it had dual wheels. But, you could upgrade the 3/4-ton with a 1-ton rear axle and stay with single wheels.
That sounds like the literal definition of "Heavy Duty" for a 2500.
