The trouble with re-connecting it as it was is that it I'd have to have a new driveline made, about 8' long with two slip yokes, 4 U-joints, and 2 pillow blocks, and I'd still have the same problem as the original being a very tight squeeze in many places, with just barely enough clearance for the U-joins (so ones that were every 1/4" wider wouldn't work) and with very sharp angles. The guy who put this all together was a good practical mechanic, but it's a kludge and is nothing close to a really proper setup. The various linkages are also really packed in tight and are in the way of things (like the transmission filler plug that can only be removed by gripping the edge of it with long pliers). All I really need is a reliable winch, and this hodge-podge of shafts and linkages isn't doing that.
