Neoprene seems to serve well.

I went ahead and dropped my tank earlier today. It had one I picked up at the big hardware store, oh, two years or more ago. Neoprene, or maybe nygen, it looks like a 2" id, by a 1/8" section diameter.

A previous one I know fersure took a dump. It swelled up almost to the size of a bagel... oh yeah, I remember why I pulled it. To drill a hole in the sender to put the pick up line through. Now I can put a sock on it.

Anyhow, today I made a set of dies to form the "sender socket" directly into the tank. A hole, an o-ring groove, and a shoulder to keep the sender in position. I'll also have to come up with a method of making the flange that the lock ring works with. Times two- now that I have the forming dies, I will put a second 'socket' in, and use it for the pick up. I'll make tanks with an accessible pick up tube, with a sock on the end. Buyers will have to drop the tank, but at least they can then remove the pick up and clean the sock filter.

I expect pics here, in just a few days. First tank is built, needs the socket/s pressed in and one end cap welded on. Grained 304 stainless steel, tig welded.
