i have worked on diesils some turned 200 rpm some turned 7000 yes I have opened many engine covers and seen plenty > the biggest i ever did see was a CAT to start it you pressed a starter button that started a FORD 302 V8 > you then thottled up the 302 to 3000 rpm > you pulled the decompression lever on the CAT > you then engaged a reduction gear box to start the CAT to spin > when the CAT was turning 300 RPM > you dropped the compression lever > and the the very ground shook 1600 hp ~ j
