a long time ago when the great sea turtle crawled out of the water and created land > and cars and trucks were made of thick metal gas welding on the line and some very primative arc but mostly nuts and bolts > seams were soldered in place ie where rear quarter might attach to a roof < spot welds soon were replacing gas welds on the line > when collison repairs were made body men could actually weld in replacement (piece or patch )hammer the welds and the distortion smoooth in in fact before plastic filler lead was applied to a repacement JOINT of body part > filed then sanded smooth the laed primed several times and then coated with emnamel paint > when the manufactures started with lighter material brazing was the only way to go ( i did this for over thirty years it was the norm )> if memory serves me right we bought a mig in 1983 holy smoke >minamal distortion one side spot welds light thin beads, you could tack a piece in place check alignment and so on < was a revoulution in the body industry great thing > and a good investment long term but if you dont have access to a mig and not a great gas welder braze > cover the brazing with a thin coat of fiberglass in a can file off exess fiber glass apply filler and never look back ~ Copey
