In the discussion about thermostats, Vaughn said that I need to run the heater hose to the water pump rather than to the bypass housing. I'm confused by this. There's a pipe-threaded hole atop the aluminum bypass housing and I always thought that's what it was for. There's no such place on the water pump. I know some trucks have a pipe-threaded tap on the lower radiator pipe (the metal pipe with hoses at each end). Is that where I need to hook it up? I could swear I'd seen heaters connected to the bypass elbow. The other end of the heater hose goes to the rear end of the head, so I assume that's the "hot" end. I know the bypass shuts off when the engine gets hot, but it would seem to me that the aluminum bypass housing is on the downstream side of that (the "suction" side of the water pump) and so it should be a good place for the "cold" end to connect to. The trouble is I can't visualize exactly what goes where inside the water pump. If the pipe-threaded hole atop the bypass elbow isn't for connecting a heater to, why is it there? And why isn't there a similar plug in the water pump housing?
