I have always had my trucks blasted with a garnet and walnut shell blend. Not overly aggressive and the walnut buffers a little.

Whey you get it back from the blasters, clean the metal very well then a final cleaning with a metal cleaner I use the PPG cleaner. Then seal the metal with an epoxy primer. Then you start your body work. Make sure that you put any body plastic on top of the sealing epoxy primer. You may have to spray more primer after each sanding to cover the bare metal.

Once all the body work is done, seal it with another coat of epoxy primer. Then spray a sanding high build primer. Let it dry then wet sand. Do this over and over until all imperfects are gone. Once you have finished with the sanding primer and all looks well seal it with another coar of epoxy primer. Once this final primer is done spray your final color.

It sounds like a lot of epoxy primer. IT is but it is needed. The epoxy primer under the body filler seals the metal and prevents any rust. The main reason for body filler coming off is that rust gets to the bare metal under the filler and it pops. The body filler is porous and will absorb water. The epoxy primer stops this.
