I prefer to blast with the fine grade of black beauty. It flows through the blaster nozzle well. The coarse does not. I like black beauty because there is almost no silica in it which makes it safer to use, even with a good mask.
I use about 60 psi of pressure and hold the gun at an angle so as to not create problems in the metal.
When I am done blasting I spray epoxy primer, then a compatible 2k primer. This 2k is the primer that you can then sand to help with minor pitting. I use the PPG system with their line of compatible products but you can use Dupont and others as well.
