On Power Wagons you can switch to the rod and eliminate the cable. the cable is a hold over from the WW2 6x6. You cannot switch to the rod on the 6x6 or on a WC3/4 ton if you have switched to the 2 speed Tcase because the cross member behind the tranny interferes with the clearance when trying to install the rod set up. (I tried)If you eliminate the crossmember on your 3/4 or 1&1/2 ton WC you can switch over to the rod, but then you lose the extra support for the spare tire carrier that crossmember is installed for.
