The cam will work. The crank will not. The stroke is longer on the 440 and the mains are larger diameter. The best thing to do is get a 4-speed crank and matching flywheel for a 383. That will drop right in your 400 and that gives you a steel crank engine. Keep in mind that you have to get the right flywheel as 400s are externally balanced and steel crank 383s and 440s are internal balance. Another option if you want to get creative is to machine your 440 crank to 400 main size, rebalance it and get the appropriate pistons and make yourself a 451 stroker.
