I had to do it to drill through the gas tank slushing compound that had plugged the pick up tube.

Later I drilled a hole in the removed sender and soldered in a length of 5/16 tube. I'll have to pull the tank, but the pick-up is servicable.

I'd like to install a sock on the end, but can't source one. Anybody?
