before you take the valves out get a stick length of the engine > then drill 12 holes just a bit bigger than the valve mark F on it for front put each valve in the c\stick as you take it out > THEN inspect each valve and its CORRESPONDING SEAT that way if you find one thin or bent valve or what ever you can check the seat very carefully to see how much you can grind/replace ect makes diagnoses (sp) of the valve train so much more accurate > also test each valve spring for unsprung height and tension (a local machine shopp can do for little cost) > if you had a couple of valve springs that were compressed for decades chances are they could be weakened > same with cam followers and cam, a good , follower and a clean cam insure proper setting of the valves > i have seen wore cams and lifters ,,,that could never be set accuratly because it was a mess in the cam department > check the cam bearings for ware ( changem now )is the time makes a big player in the oil pressure department > the keepers i am iffy on them ! TOSS THEM check the valves for wear and check the valve stem for ware!! too that way if you kept every thing to gether you can evaluate the conditions of your GUIDES ! you (am i spelling were right) at the keepers to and the keepers for wear or is it ware ~ Copey
