So I pulled the beast out of it's garage and let it run unattended but secured as I usually do. After about 10 minutes I returned to check on it and it wasnt running any longer.. Very odd since it normally runs just fine.

Believeing I had come into some bad gas (water) I did the drain process. It still would not start.

As luck would have it, the guy who was installing a few new windows at the house says he was once a Russian Army mechanic. He comes over, asks a few questions, smells the gas and then says that the fuel pump is bad. He says it isnt pumping adequately enough to keep fuel in the carb. Neither glass bowl are showing any fuel in them at this point.

So in his strong Russian accent he says, let me show you an old army trick... He then tells me to try to start the truck while he blows forcefully into the gasoline filler. Im thinking he is nuts, but whatever....

I jump in, hit the starter, he blows into the filler and and the beast springs to life. I couldnt believe it. It ran for about 1 1/2 minutes before it faded again and died.

OK, Im convinced... The diaphram in the fuel pump must be bad to the point that it doesnt pump enough to keep the system pressurized.

So the question is.... Has anyone else ever heard of this trick, or tried it? And if so, is it proof positive of a bad diaphram or should I be looking at something else??? It sure seems to be a positive test!

Lastly, has anyone tried an electric fuel pump on their 6 volt (230)Power Wagon, even if for a short term fix. Im thinking of popping one on until I locate a new fuel pump or rebuild kit. Do they come in 6 volt style, as my 54 flat fender was never converted to 12.

Thanks for the help.

I hope this trick may be of help to one of you. It sure impressed me!

Be safe.
