the military has hummers with the setup you describe. they run on batteries. good idea in concept, bad idea in actual use. the best hummer would be a stripped down unit, devoid of electronics with a 12v cummins shoehorned in. use a monster automatic transmission and you would be good to go. too many electronics on a military vehicle these days. i would make sure the auto they installed allowed push starting for dead batteries.
