Why do bias ply tires age better than radials? It seems to me of the rubber deteriorates, which it sure does on old trucks that sit out in the sun all the time, that would be the same problem no matter which way the plies run. Maybe it's because radials flex more so weak rubber gets stressed more. Those 35 year old Michelin radial snow tires I use every winter are still fine, though.

I should have mentioned, Mr Safety who was suddenly so concerned about his wife's safety that he didn't want a pair of like-new studded snow tires because they were 9 years old is currently running different size tires and rims on the front and rear; 14s on one end and 15s on the other, on rusty old beater Nissan pickup. Fortunately it's a 2WD. Somehow I just don't seem him going down to the tire store and dropping $500 on a set of fresh tires.
