On the M37 head there is a pipe plug above #6 piston. Unscrew the plug. There is a nifty indicator that you can use that is called out in the manuals or you can use a long stick or screwdriver and just oberve when you reach the highest point as you rotate the engine manually.
Or just look at the timing indicator on the front pulley.
