Most of these were made for the Civil Defense for putting out fires after the "BIG ONE" hit. Some were made for industrial fire brigades, the railroads had a lot of them, and some were used as filler pumps for fire tanker trucks. More information can be found on the WEB. Try SPAMMFAA link.
