The GMC 305 V6 engine is the smallest of a family of V6 engines that can go all the way up to about 477 c.i. using the same block, but different bores and strokes. I have a friend in Green River, WY that several of the 477 c.i. monsters in his shop and plans to wedge one into one of his M-37's some day. The size and weight, plus really bad fuel mileage are the drawbacks. The monster torque is the high point, until you start breaking stuff with that torque. My personal preference is the original flathead 6, which the original truck was designed for and which runs so smooth and nice when properly tuned. I love the sound of the flathead 6 exhaust, the roar of the big radiator fan and the whine of the straight cut gears. I am in no hurry to get anywhere when I am driving the old PW, anyway. My thoughts only.
