I am going to rebuild my 230 and I would like to take advantage of some of the leg (keyboard?) work that some of you masy have already done. I am going to bore it and use stock style .030 over pistons and just balance it. I would like to set it up for zero deck height, if that is feasible. I would like to find a better camshaft. I think Isky still makes one. I would like to find it at a good price. I found a place that has good prices on rod and pistons and some other stuff. I may replace all of the valves while I am at it. Does anyone know if Felpro makes a gasket kit for this engine? Hopefully this rebuild will last until I am in assisted living and my as yet unborn grandchildren (my kids are 2 & 4) are driving the truck. At 500 miles a year it should last a while.
It is unnecssary and gratuitous to advise me not to "hot rod" a 230. If the old ball & chain can't change my mind about anything you guys don't stand a chance. I don't plan to get the 847 horsepower out of this engine that I got out of my 540" BB Chevy. I just want a good running motor with a few extra foot pounds of torque. I promise I'll only use the nitrous on the really steep hills.
Any leads on parts sources and rebuilding tips will be appreciated.
Regards, Andy Tierney
