Engine/transmission swap

I just picked up another engine for my '84 Power Ram (yes, I know it's not a Power Wagon. I've got one of those too.) This truck is going to be my winter beater. The 318 sounds like a diesel and i want to pull it while the only thing it needs is rings and bearings. Good strong engine but low on oil pressure and noisy.

The engine I got is a 440 with 727 tranny and NP 203 transfer case. Supposedly the engine ran good when pulled and the tranny pulled good with crisp shifts. I'm going to resue my current transfer case to keep the part time 4X4 function. My one question is this, do I use the entire tailshaft adaptor or just bolt my old adaptor and transfer case to the new BB727 tranny? I may have a Dodge mechanic do it in his spare time as I'm pressed for time and space as well as being watched like a hawk by the zoning gestapo.

I'm only looking for dependable transport but if I can show off my tail lights to a brand X truck........
