Pull the pan off, it does come out though you may want to jack stand the frame and let teh front axle drop.

Then turn the crank until the suspect is at the bottom of it's stroke. Pull the cap off, knock the bolts out, and push the rod upwards. The upper insert will probably eject itself from the pounding it has been doing. Pull it our by rotating on the transverse axis. New ones have a thin, dull coat of solder-like babbit inside. Shiny is OK too. As the babbit wears away, you will see copper, followed by steel. And grooving too, the crank should be smooth ground surface.

The outside of the insert should have a number on it, like .020, meaning the crank was ground .020 undersize. Means the bearing is .020 oversize. You will need a new one the same size- both pieces. The outside will usually be stamped with a brand, like 'Clevite 77' and a part number.

There used to be machinists who would come out and grind one crank journal in the chassis. It was not quite as accurate as a full crank grind, but lots cheaper than a full tear down.

You'll probably want a face shield, that old sludge burns when it gets in your eyes.

Have FUN!
