Most oil rigs have everything skidded, if you have a full width tailroller (8 inch dia)you can winch the load up on the tail board and then back up onto a trailer and drop the load on the deck and go get another load, you can also boom down a skidded load on the bed and haul it down the road and then unload it without a trailer, the roller helps the skid go up and down without hanging on the truck frame, there are usually webil pins on the sides of the full tailroller to keep the skidd from moving while on top of the metal bed, also while winching a heavy 50 ton load the winch cable will wind up over the tail roller onto the drum as the driver backs the truck up, lots of 1 ton hot shot drivers have a tiny(3") removeable roller on 40 foot flatbeds to help pipe and skids go up on the trailer bed with out hanging on the truck frame. Winch sits behind cab, inside armored headache rack, gin poles ride in pole pockets on the outsides of the bed until raised at the job if needed. google images for oilfeild winch trucks
