Even the PW, as tough as it is, was never designed for crash protection. Crumple and impact absorbing construction was not done in the PW Days. I remember as a kid, many drivers were impaled with the steering column on a hard frontal impact. Many times engines
ended up in the passenger area. We all know the construction of the PW/WC/M37 cabs, consider how that cab would react in a roll over with all the weight of our trucks. Our
present trucks ( all major brands) present safety for the driver and passengers that the early engineers only could dream about. I would not want to be in any of my old iron in a bad accident, I would prefer to be in any Dodge, Ford or Chev that is designed for impact protection.
