Cold start procedure for most trucks- pump the gas pedal slowly, twice, hold pedal down on last pump. Pull choke out about 1". Start engine. Drive. Notice that engine won't rev up, push choke back in a bit, tries to die when shifting, pull out some. It's almost like driving using an accessory hand throttle as well as foot throttle.

Choke ought to go all the way back in in a few minutes. Don't forget and leave it half way out, it will slurp up gas at an amazing rate.

Gee, I forget that the current generation has never driven anything with a carburetor. Hand chokes are totally archaic. Sometimes I feel old.
