Only makes a difference if you have a poor/leaking joint. If it's before the pump it sucks air and affects fuel flow, if it's after the pump it squirts fuel. Having said that, mine is before the pump and after I service it the pump does not seem to want to pick up the gas, even though it's in good shape. The cure is to take off the gas filler cap and stick the air line in there, only sealing the space around it with your hand so you can't build up too much pressure. As soon as you see fuel coming into the glass pump bowl stop with the air and all works OK. I use a CAV filter with glass water trap bowl and replaceable cartridge filter combined with the fuel pump that has the glass sediment bowl. Living in the bush you sometimes have a compromised fuel supply.
