me too I have seen rubber/neoprene seals cut many grooves. presoak leather one in light oil before install. If you drive regularly the leather will be great. when they sit they tend to dry and shrink then weep. One superior feature of the NOS type is the metal housing for the seal is ready for WW3. It wont get taken out by rocks or sticks off road.
