Trying to figure out what's going on with the '41 Command car. It is all original and everything new or rebuilt. It does sit for long periods without being started. The only thing we did that was different was to put a 35 amp fuse in the wire that goes from the ammeter to the battery post on the starter.
Anyway...
When the vehicle is at idle the ammeter shows basicly zero amps. As you rev it up to about 1500 RPM the ammeter pegs out at 35 amps, and eventually blows the fuse. The fuse housing is almost too hot to touch at that point. I've gone through the original army manual for the vehicle, but not much in the way of troubleshooting in there. Any ideas where to start? Possibly the generator is faulty? I have about 50 spare generators to swap out, but I think it's going to be in that shoebox size VR on the firewall. Any ideas appreciated.
