Paul, I also remember those chain drive trucks as they performed their daily tasks around town! And watching the night watchman light the red kerosene lamps to put on the crossing gates whenever a steam train would come along, that is, if he would awaken from his drunken stupor from being housed in his gate-tender's shack that was located at every rail crossing in town! It used to be a rare occasion that we would put a penny (when we could afford it)on the tracks to watch the locomotive run over and flatten it. Hey, my brother and I even had a ride on a real steam roller back in the days that the city was re-paving a nearby street! We were 6-8 yrs. old then. It was just like hopping on a locomotive, shoveling coal into the boiler, etc. You would never see that happening today, what with concerns about liabilities, safety, and lawsuits! Dave Maher
