Robert, I know there is at least 100 different opinions on how to do this-- her is number 101-- drill the heads off below the frame-- use the old piece as a pattern and make new ones from stainless bar stock-- don't forget the very slight bend, and reassemble with stainless screws-- aircraft grade-- not Home Depot grade.Apply a tiny bit of C5 antiseize and your kids will be able to take it apart with a screwdriver when they own the truck-
