To my uneducated-on-this-subject mind, both should be able to be done as these two fuels are derived from fundamentally different parts of the energy content of corn plant. Ethanol comes from the sugars and starches, ie the carbohydrates, while "oil" denotes a lipid, ie fat. So I think one could extract the oils for a biodiesel product and extract the sugars and starches for an ethanol product.

Then there's the protein content that can be fed back into "the system" via livestock.(?)

Am I wrong here on this basic point concerning carbs/fats and the fuels they can be used to manufacture? Perhaps it's difficult to efficiently separate these constituent parts of the energy content of a plant, I don't know.

I may be completely wrong here.
