Stihl and Husky are the most popular but I'd suggest you to base your decision on the dealer nearest you for parts and service. That's worth it's weight in gold to me.

I prefer Stihl. One thing to look at it the cc size of the saw. I have a Stihl MS 192 that I use for limbing and most stuff up to 18 inches. That saw is lightweight and if you look at Stihls homeowner line, they use the same cylinder in a saw that LOOKS bigger. It isn't, just more plastic to make you think your getting more for the money. My opinion is for the average homeowner cutting less than 5 cord a year this is enough unless you just WANT a bad boy saw.

I like the small saws because if your sawing most of the day there is no need to swing a big saw around to trim the little stuff. Just gets you tired and that can lead to injuries if you keep going. When I get the stuff limbed out I'll fire up the MS 660 and let the 3 ft bar rip just laying it on the log.
